Mains Gas Supply

Postby coatimundi » Sun Nov 01, 2009 6:55 pm

My wife is in our house in GA (Monte y Mar lower) while I am away at work and was approached yesterday by a lady from a company called Elsan-Pacsa with a proposal to connect the house to mains gas so that we can do away with our gas bottle system. The sales spiel was that it would be a free installation, but we would be charged 650 euros when we started using it :?: :?: :?: She also says several other properties are due to be connected in our area.

Anyone else come across this company? They have a website but it doesn't tell us much. Alternatively, are there any other companies offering mains gas connections, and how does the price compare with the Elsan-Pacsa proposal?

Thanks
Mark

Never quite worked out how this is a sound financial proposition

Bottle of Gas is about 11€ lasts about 3 to 4 weeks for family of 4

Roughly about 150€ a year if here 12 months of the year

All the mains gas companies charge about 500-600€ installation charge then about 10€ a month standing charge then the price of the gas used

This really looks like a no brainer especially if you only use your property as a holiday home

These "natural gas" companies are going around collecting signatures of interested parties in the hope they can lobby your community into digging up the streets to get it installed.

My experience (on houses in other phases that have had the roads dug up) is that the work is often not to the highest standard - civil works wise - and that the pipe that provides the gas has to go up and over the front of your house - not very pleasing on the eye.

Have to agree with Rich & Sue

The thought of unprotected gas pipes running up the outside of properties sounds horrendous

Also the mess involved in digging up roads and patios is not good

But as I said above the cost alone should put most people off

Hi Mark, on our community we had a vote on this subject at the last AGM.

The decision was taken to allow those on the outside to have the gas connected if they wished, however those on the inside will not be allowed to have it connected. For the few on the outside who want it I would not now see it being viable for the gas company to connect them.

I have a friend who lives "up the hill" opposite the post office. The supply of gas to houses up there is a joke..........pipes running along walls adjacent to foot paths were anyone can tamper with them. I would not be surprised if a few of the young lads havn't cut few pipes and had a lovely torch illuminating the evening sky.

It would frighten me if it were to be allowed on our community.

Regards all

Outside of GA the gas companies are offering FREE connection, Free new boiler & gas at very low rates with a standing charge of around €7 per month.
