Cameras that is...with pros & cons.
Currently I have a Konica Minolta A200 8mp

Pros
good pixel count
articulated lcd
effective anti-shake
28 -135 effective focal length + macro
light and compact
3:2 aspect ratio option
ir remote included

Cons
lens not interchangeable and could do with being a little wider
AF can get confused in low light
small EV / small LCD
slow write speed to CF card when using RAW + JPEG

Aspiring to...
Nikon D90 or Olympus E30 or Panasonic Lumix G1

Canon Powershot A540
6MP 4x zoom
Pros
It was cheap on E Bay
Nice and Compact
Cons
Having emerged blinking into the daylight from a 35mm darkroom, I don't really understand it yet.

Cameras

Postby Markr1506 » Thu Dec 18, 2008 6:54 pm

As a complete aim and click bloke....

I have a Pentax Optio 60

The questions for some of you more Techie folks is why do my batteries run out so quickly?

I use rechargable batteries and last weekend went to a wedding and took about 50 pics and used 8 batteries.  Do I need to buy specivic rechargable batteries to get a longer operation.  Currently have Kodak/Vivanco & Fujifilm rechargable batteries?

Regards,

Mark.

Hi Mark

did a quick net search and found this...

Eveready 2500 milliamp hour rechargeable batteries tend to last far longer.

Try this review, you might get some pointers if you scroll far enough down.

Thing is with most middle to top end cameras there are a wealth of features built in that most don't explore - got to admit I'm a bit like that myself, manual reading isn't the thing I do best.

I like to keep the PDF user guide active on my computer most of the day just so I can 'dip' in to it, rather than try to learn it all in one go.

Difficult Comparisons

Postby Rich & Sue » Thu Dec 18, 2008 8:41 pm

I wont do a "my camera is better than yours" speech as I have never used the others mentioned

I am very much a point and shoot type of user. I had absolutely no idea what the "best" camera was.

So I bought a copy of "Which Camera" and bought their best buy compact.

The Canon Ixus 70 is really oustanding - 7.1 mp but more importantly than that loads of features (face recognition focus is the best) and it really does take you to a professional level if you have the eye to find the right shot.

It has a very large LCD on the back of the case and - this is very important - a optical peep viewfinder which is essential if you have strong sunlight behind your back and dont want to simply guess what you are pointing at !

Do a few searches - the IXUS will come out very well in every comparision. Dont forget Dixons duty free may well be the best price on the outward leg if you are flying from the UK and the price comparison sites often wont have that price on their searches

A good picture is much more than the camera.

Technology helps but its the photographers skill that really matters along with a good subject.

Also the larger the lens the better clarity of picture.

Compact camera also almost always have infinite depth of field (ie focus from near to far) which in itself is not bad but does not allow creativity on photographs but playing with the focus points.
