Granizado

Postby sandra » Sat Jun 06, 2009 10:31 pm

For those who have no idea, is a grown up version of a slush puppy. Not that kids won't enjoy it, they will, but it is made with fresh fruit, sugar and water.

Juice of one big lemon
1/2 cup sugar
water

First ( and I know this sounds odd) go buy a 500ml  granizado from mercadonna (frozen section, but not in with ice cream) unless you have a handy freezer and microwavable container. Use according to instructions, and save container for this recipe.

Put juice and sugar in container. Stir till sugar dissolves, the acid will help. Top up with water and stir, leaving a good half inch gap at the top. Put lid on and freeze until totally solid.

When you want it, remove lid and pop in microwave for 2-3 min, or leave out for 1/2 hour.

Put into larger bowl and blitz with a stick blender till smooth, or if you don't have one, break up with a fork. Put into glasses with a straw.

So yummy in the summer heat! Just don't drink it too fast or it will make your head ache.

May be possible to make it more interesting for those with alcoholic tendencies, to add a splash of Limoncello!
I have been saving containers and can make several at a time.
You could try it with other fruit juices or with tea or coffee.

Sorry, container should be 1 litre, not 500ml.

Otherwise the recipe is the same.
