TRAPPED!

Having noticed the number of new radar speed traps being installed on the N332, this article sums it up;

2.2 million Spanish drivers will be fined next year

Next year sees more radar speed traps on Spain's roads

The State Budget for next year, currently being debated in Congress, envisages a 3.8% increase in income in these tough times from traffic fines.

The Government expects to collect no less than 431.9 million € in infractions next year, and justifies the increase with the higher number of radar traps installed on the nation’s roads. There are currently 500 radars in operation, but that number will increase to 1,500 by 2011, and next year will see also the introduction of 21 more mobile radars in camouflaged vehicles, to add to the 18 acquired this year.

Next year no fewer than a million and a half drivers will lose at least a point from their licence as 2.2 million infractions are caught, 100,000 more than this year.

The DGT traffic authority is funded by the fines, but will see its other source of income, from the tax on new registrations, fall. Total income next year is expected to be 497 million €, down 9.2% on this year, given the lower number of registrations.

We could all help each other out here and post the locations of any radar traps that we spot on our travels.

I'm over next week for 14 days and will be out and about a bit, I'll be watching out for these although being on hols I tend to just tootle along quietly anyway within the limits.
