SPOKE TO A TELE ENGINEER TODAY HE ADVISED ME TO CHECK YOUR SCART LEADS OR MOST LIKELY REPLACE.

Are you using the same scart lead as you were when it all worked?
I have experienced a couple of connection problems. One with a connection for CCTV to a TV set, only to find out that the scart did not have all pins connected.
Second experience being that a new set, so thought why not buy and use new and good quality leads. You may have guessed already, a poor connection in the new good quality lead.
If you can, check and test the scarts.

Went to the house today and checked all the scart leads by switching them with the SKY box and find all the leads are fine.

Anyone have any other ideas...?

Mark.

Probably the heads on the VCR section knackered? If so, then it's a judgement call on whether it's cheaper to buy a new one or get the old one repaired. If it were me I'd try the following.

Do you have access to a different VCR? If you do, try that with the same tapes and same SCART lead on the same telly. Work? If so, it's the DVD/VCR box itself and nothing else I'd have said. If it's the same and you're getting a blue screen on the test VCR box, points towards the TV or the SCART lead. If the latter happens, try a different SCART lead with the same test VCR box. Same thing happen? Then it's the TV in all probability. (Which doesn't mean your TV is knackered, probably a setting issue.)

I'd look at the tapes and see what format they are (PAL/SECAM/NTSC) and see if there's a setting for NTSC/PAL on the TV or DVD/Video box. If there is, toggle them and see what happens when testing the box. Tried the DVD/VCR box on another telly?

I've played many of these videos on the same VCR before so am sure the Videos are the right fomat for the machine. It's a joint DVD/VCR machine. I know that this happened sometime ago and someone visiting us did something and it worked fine. We have guests at the house a fair bit and many will mess around with settings on the TV, so I'm thinking this is either a setting problem on the TV or on the DVD/VCR, but have gone through the simple things.

I'm back at the house tomorrow for the weekend, so will have a play around with it.

If I can't get it sorted does anyone have a number for a TV man locally that I can call?

Regards,

Mark
